Pilates, Yoga, Fitness, Oh My!

Pilates and Yoga are a great approach to incorporate into your fitness regime or workout cycle. At the moment I am utilizing Yoga in conjuction with my regular full body, body weight workout. Although I am not a traditionalist when it comes to my Yoga I do use traditional poses. Currently I do one day of my body weight routine and then one day of Yoga.
In the past I have worked with a weight machine workout one day and then one day of Pilates mat exercises. Yoga and Pilates are in themselves a full body, body weight exercise. To do either of these disciplines you don’t need any specialized equipment. I should note however that if you want to advance to a more advanced Pilates practice that advanced equipment will be needed but the basic mat routine is great. Each, Yoga and Pilates are excellent to use in order to tone your muscles, help your breathing, and develop your core muscles.
Here are just a 10 of the shared benefits of incorporating Yoga or Pilates into your fitness program:
- Your body will develop a better shape that will be sleeker and firmer.
- Pain, discomfort and any fatigue will become less.
- You will surely sleep better.
- You will get stronger without become any bulkier.
- Your body will eventually move more easily and quickly which will help prevent injury.
- If you have stress in your life your mental and physical endurance will increase.
- Your flexibility will greatly be improved.
- Your posture, coordination, and alignment will be improved.
- Back pain can be relieved.
- Perhaps best of all your self confidence will increase.
I strongly encourage anybody that wants to tone up without adding any bulk to their body to at least look into working in a day or two of Yoga and Pilates.

I have been doing advanced step aerobics, aerobics, tae bo, and weight training for over 22 yrs. This is different then pilates, but it is not boring at all and different can be better. I love it! Take a chance and you won’t be disappointed!
